Applying for Financial support:  Free School Meals and Pupil Premium funding

What is the Pupil Premium?

The Pupil Premium was introduced in April 2011. It was allocated to children from families who were known to be eligible for free school meals, and children who had been looked after continuously for more than six months. This is Government funding for schools to help children from lower income families do their very best. Once a child has become eligible for this support it continues for six years after eligibility ceases, so even if you meet the criteria for Free School Meals now and then your circumstances change next year and you are no longer eligible, the Pupil Premium funding will continue for a further six years. Schools also receive funding of a smaller amount for the children of service personnel.

You are now able to instantly check your eligibility via totally confidential website:

  • It is free to check, takes just a few minutes to complete and it will tell you straight away if you are eligible.
  • The application process is confidential and receipt of Pupil Premium will not affect any other benefits you are claiming.

Free School Meals

If your child is eligible for free school meals, then the value of this is £2.50 per day.  This may be used at either break time or at lunch time.  Even if you child chooses not to take up the meal, your registering will mean that the school receives additional Pupil Premium funding.

Pupil Premium Allowance

We have created an account for all students eligible for the Pupil Premium funding which they can spend on a range of activities or equipment both inside and outside of school. We hope that this will help them to access a wider range of experiences and opportunities in their learning.

KS3 students receive an allowance of £30.

KS4 students receive an allowance of £50.

Students can spend this allowance on equipment, activities or trips both in and out of school. The allowance is not to be used to purchase uniform items.

Opportunities may arise during the school year that the allowance could be used for or towards and our Pupil Premium Champion is happy to discuss these with students individually.

In addition, to the funding that eligible children receive, for each child on our register that is eligible for Pupil Premium funding, the school also receives funding so as to be able to provide enhanced support for  our students.

For more information about how the school uses Pupil Premium funding go to our Pupil Premium section.
