National Careers Week

Last year during National Careers Week we ran our first internal mock interviews based on the Leicestershire Cares model which brings local business volunteers into school to conduct KS4 interviews.

Twenty-one Year 9 students were selected to be our interviewers. They received training based on their own research into the role and behaviours of an interviewer.

During the last two weeks Year 7 have been preparing for their mock interview answers to scripted questions during their Competency Curriculum lessons. Our ‘Futures’ module helps students to begin to visualise a successful future for themselves. Amongst other activities they research careers that match their skills set using the ‘New Kudos’ (Cascaid) on-line resource. The culmination of their learning was the mock interview. Understandably, many students were nervous but after having had positive experiences there were smiles all-round. Each interviewer selected a ‘Star Interview’ student from amongst their interviewee cohort.
