Business Breakfast

Teachers and employers joint planning meeting.

16 visiting employers and 70 BLS teaching staff.

We welcomed sixteen visitors from local businesses into school on the morning of our January training day to help us broaden the scope and impact of employer engagement within school. The brief on the day was to explore ways in which businesses can help deepen learning within the curriculum.  Faculties were asked in advance to identify areas, concepts or modules where additional input would support learning. We know our students respond well to ‘real life’ situations within their learning and so having this additional opportunity to gain such insights from local employers was exciting.

Outcomes:  from ‘Improving decision making skills’ in Geography using information and support materials from the Environment Agency about a current local case study on the River Soar flood plain, to patient recovery from a ‘life event’ within a physio’s working day at Leicester Royal Infirmary; the contributions from our partner employers will, without doubt, enhance and strengthen learning across the curriculum.

‘I thought it was really positive this morning with such a great atmosphere and all the staff seemed very enthusiastic about wanting to incorporate new careers related aspects to their teaching!  The sharing of their plans was really useful for myself and Nacho to hear and as so many subjects cross over, it’s really good for them all to hear what the other departments are planning.’ Saahera Mahomed, Enterprise Coordinator, LLEP.

‘It was an excellent event and something that I think worked very well. My team works with a lot of schools in the city and we’ve not been involved in such an innovative event before – it seems so simple but worked so well and generated lots of ideas! ‘ Harriet Pole, Public Engagement Officer (Widening Participation and Confucius Institute) De Montfort University.
