NCW2020 Day 1: Meet the Expert

All 210 of our year 7 students were in the hall to meet our panel of expert guests.  We were delighted to welcome experts from a range of different careers.  Our students then had the opportunity to ask  questions of the panel:

• A Software Engineer
• A Civil Engineer
• A Food Scientist
• A Biomedical Scientist for the NHS
• A Solicitor
• A Mechanical Engineer
• A Manager for Fujitsu
• A Highways Engineer for the County Council

As well as finding out about the actual jobs that our experts do, students were really engaged to hear about their career journeys to get to this point.  For example, for many students it was really comforting to hear that many of the experts weren’t sure what career they wanted to do when they were aged twelve.  The message about the importance of developing employability skills such as ‘resilience’ that allow you to be successful in any career, also came through really strongly.
