Futures Virtual Convention 2020

On Tuesday 6th October we held our first ever Virtual Careers Convention. The Convention has been a staple of the careers curriculum for over 10 years, but due to Covid restrictions, it became necessary for us to hold it   on-line rather than inviting providers, parents and students into the school for the evening.

A total of six Further Education Colleges agreed to take part in the live presentations and question and answer sessions, as well as the National Apprenticeship Service.

Parents and students were encouraged to visit our website from 6pm onwards to take part in the live sessions and also start to research Post 16 options via the multitude of links provided on our page.

Fortunately, everything went according to plan, with no technical glitches and plenty of questions being asked by our students.  During the evening over 143 students logged onto the event and this was a fabulous turnout - meaning that 70% of our pupils have started to actively think about their next steps and are starting to make important decisions regarding their future.

Hopefully, next year we will be able to return to a physical careers fair with all of the attendant buzz and excitement.  However, in the meantime, this virtual event allowed us to ensure that our students were given the opportunity to engage with providers and research their options, alongside their parents/carers, in the safety and comfort of their own home.
