Beaumont Leys

Futures Convention 2019

Tuesday October 1st saw Beaumont Leys 11th Futures Convention with over 25 colleges, universities, training providers and employers offering advice and guidance to our Year 11 students. It was a fantastic evening and our students and their parents really appreciated the chance to find out about such a wide range of opportunities. This event is the starting point for our students to really begin thinking about their future choices and so to be able to talk to all of these professionals under one roof was a perfect start.

Students will now be writing their personal statements in readiness for completion of a common application form – “Positive Steps @ 16” (www.ps16.co.uk) whereby they can apply to any of the Leicestershire colleges or training providers. Support will be provided throughout our Learning 4 Life lessons and additional advice and guidance will be provided by Mrs Wright.

Here are a few quotes from our feedback forms:

Students and Parents:

“It was a great experience to take the opportunity to talk to different colleges and universities”

“It was very informative and gave me lots of ideas about construction careers”

“It opened my options to more colleges than the ones I had in mind”

“Plenty of information and gained an insight into the differences between college and apprenticeships”

The providers were also impressed with our students:

“All students were very friendly and keen to succeed”

“The students were full of questions and open minded when it came to pathways they perhaps hadn’t considered before”

“You could tell that lots of students had a really clear idea of what they wanted from their future!”
